Audio Review - Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan

The Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan is another classic story in the Wheel of Time series. I was, as always, impressed by the readers Kate Reading and Michael Kramer. They do an excellent job a narrating the story and giving a unique voice to each of the characters. I can always tell which main character is speaking when they are narrating. That being said, this audio book was probably one of the hardest to get through. The book dragged on and on and I was wishing the whole time that it would just be over (especially toward the latter 1/4 of the book). The biggest problem I have with the series is the length devoted to people who just don't matter (like the cart driver in one of the books that got a full 5+ pages and his only purpose was to drive the characters from one place to another and then he disappears from the series). The plot is there, but just seemed to drag in this book. Again and again I wondered when this was going to end. I ended up reading most of the plot in the series at the Encyclopaedia-WOT and still feel like I wasted my time by listening to the remainder of the book. All that said, I'm anxious to listen to/read the next book in the series as the books finally might be starting to wind down. This book may just be the needed middle book of the series that ties things together, so off to Winter's Heart, assuming that my hold will come in sometime this year.

Overall rating: B-

Other thoughts on the Wheel of Time series: Since Robert Jordan has since passed away and left the series unfinished, Brandon Sanderson has been hired to complete them. Recent news was that the first of the three-part final book would be coming out towards the end of the year with subsequent parts arriving every year thereafter. I'm so glad that the series is going to be completed and that Brandon Sanderson was hired to do this. I really liked his novel Elantris and look forward to him completing this overwhelming work and legacy.
